Paul Quaranto is Chair and Chief Executive Officer at Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company. Mr. Quaranto became President and Chief Operating Officer of the company in January 2012, only the seventh president in the company’s 133-year history. Continuing to serve as President, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in May 2014 and Chairman of the Board of Directors in April 2016.  In January 2025, the company’s Board of Directors and Mr. Quaranto  appointed a successor to take on the role of President and Chief Operating Officer as part of Boston Mutual Life’s long-term succession plan. Mr. Quaranto continues to serve as Chair and Chief Executive Officer while overseeing the attainment key strategic milestones and a successful leadership transition. Prior to being named President in 2012, he served as Vice President of Group Insurance for 17 years, where he had top- and bottom-line responsibility for the division. He began his tenure at Boston Mutual Life as a group sales manager. Preceding his move to Boston Mutual Life, Mr. Quaranto held 10 years of experience in the insurance industry with other leading carriers. Mr. Quaranto has led the company through numerous achievements and growth opportunities. He began his leadership tenure with a long-term roadmap to ensure continued strategic, operational, and financial success as a niche provider in the individual and workplace insurance markets. Vision 2025, the latest iteration of the strategic plan within Boston Mutual Life’s long-term roadmap, details plans to capitalize on over a century of success by reiterating the company’s Guiding Principles and articulating its brand – “Family Matters. No Matter What.” The strategic plan speaks to the need to build a foundation for future success, including a state of organizational readiness, modernized strategic business center profiles, and holistic financial, risk and governance discipline and practices – all the while representing the goodness of mutuality in all the company does for its stakeholders. Recently, the company expanded its Distribution profile, established strategies to service its customers well today while building a new infrastructure for tomorrow, insourced a robust Information Services department, introduced Project Management, Change Management, and Innovation disciplines to the organization, and opened a second operations office in Omaha, NE. Mr. Quaranto has led the company through a significant evolutionary initiative; a multi-year, enterprise-wide system replacement program focused on replacing Boston Mutual Life’s legacy systems with a new, state-of-the-art policy administration system, targeting a 2025 launch. The development of Learning Organization initiatives, including professional development activities within BML University, supports an ongoing investment in employees to bolster engagement. In 2024, the company implemented a new equitable job and salary architecture, the result of a year-long project with a national consultant as part of the company’s commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. AM Best has recognized Boston Mutual Life for its excellent performance. Mr. Quaranto has guided the company through challenges while fostering an environment of innovation and growth. On behalf of Boston Mutual Life, Mr. Quaranto has signed the CEO Pledge for Diversity and Inclusion and the Massachusetts Business Coalition for Early Childhood Education. He also co-authored a chapter in the book “Answer Intelligence: Raise Your AQ,” by Brian Glibkowski, PhD, MBA, based on research projects conducted at Boston Mutual Life that led to the establishment of the organization’s current brand. He invested in future generations of the industry by creating collaborative opportunities with Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. As an active member of the Board of Directors for the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), Mr. Quaranto served as ACLI Chair from September 2023 through September 2024. In addition, he served as Chair of the Executive Committee and Forum 500 Board of Governors. He has previously served as Co-Chair of the CEO Steering Committee for Consumer Issues and as a member of the CEO Steering Committee on Taxation and Chair of the ACLI Political Action Committee (PAC). Under his leadership, Boston Mutual was a founding member of ACLI’s 360 Community Capital, an industry investment initiative focused on strengthening communities through affordable, sustainable housing. He was also the Chair of the Life Insurance Association of Massachusetts (LIAM). Mr. Quaranto holds a bachelor’s degree in administrative science from Colby College and a master’s degree in business administration from Anna Maria College, where he recently served as an adjunct professor for an executive leadership course. He is also a Fellow of the LIMRA Leadership Institute.

John Cook was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in April 2010. Mr. Cook retired in 2013 as Managing Director of Seaward Management. In his career spanning more than four decades, he served in a variety of executive leadership roles prior to joining Seaward in 1999 including President of UAM Investment Services, President and Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse First Boston Investment Management Inc., President of Fidelity Management Trust Company, President of Fidelity Investments Institutional Group and head of J.P. Morgan's Institutional Equity Management Group. Mr. Cook served as trustee of Fordham University for sixteen years and is currently a trustee emeritus. He is a Trustee and member of the executive committee of the Joslin Diabetes Center, and a former Trustee of St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Massachusetts. Mr. Cook received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Fordham University in 1965 and his master’s degree from New York University in 1972.

John Cornish was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in April 2013 and is also currently Chairman of the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee. Mr. Cornish is a partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart, and former co-chair of the firm’s Wealth Management Department., He has also served several terms on its Executive Committee. He began his career in 1973 as an attorney for Warner & Stackpole LLP in Boston, becoming a partner in 1980. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America and named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer. He is a managing trustee of numerous private and charitable trusts and represents for-profit and non-profit organizations on general and tax matters. As a trustee of the Calderwood Foundation, he received the Wimberly Award in 2009 for his role in establishing the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts and for his overall commitment to the theatre. He is also a fellow for the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Cornish received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College in 1969. He earned his doctor of law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1973 and his Master of Laws degree in taxation from Boston University Law School in 1977.

Henry Goldman was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in January 1995 and to Life Insurance Company of Boston & New York’s Board of Directors in April 2018. Mr. Goldman practices law at the Law Office of Henry T. Goldman in Newton, Massachusetts, which he founded in 2010. Prior to opening his own firm, he was with K&L Gates LLP and Warner and Stackpole LLP of Boston, specializing in labor and employment law. He worked in a private practice and was employed by the Office of Economic Opportunity in Washington, D.C. before joining Warner and Stackpole in 1977. Mr. Goldman is a Trustee of the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, Massachusetts, and is a tutor in the English Language Learner program of the Newton Free Library. Mr. Goldman received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his master’s degree in management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He earned his juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1973.

Thomas Joyce was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s board of directors in July 1987 and serves as chairman of the Compensation Committee. He is the President of Joyce & Joyce, the premier lobbying firm in Boston. Mr. Joyce has nearly forty years’ experience successfully representing corporations and professional trade associations. Prior to reorganizing the firm Joyce, Capeless, McNulty and Roddy into Joyce & Joyce in 1984, he served as a member of the firm and assistant general counsel to multiple associations throughout Boston. Mr. Joyce is a member of the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is past president of the Clover Club of Boston and the Mistletoe Society. He participates in numerous charitable and educational endeavors. He is also a member of the Salem Country Club. Mr. Joyce earned his Juris Doctor degree attending nights from Suffolk Law School in 1978. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received and a Bronze Star during combat as an infantryman in Vietnam in the United States Marine Corps and is a disabled Marine veteran.

Austin Lydon was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in October 2012. He joined Deloitte & Touche in 1973 and served in a number of key roles in his tenure of almost 40 years at the firm until he retired in 2012. Mr. Lydon was a partner for 30 years, a managing partner of the Hartford Office for 11 years, and worked as lead client service partner for many multi-national clients. Prior to retiring, Mr. Lydon was a certified public accountant in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Mr. Lydon also serves as the company’s Chairman of the Audit Committee, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a founding Director of the Capitol Region Growth Council and was active in the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce and Nutmeg Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He was also the first-ever winner of the Chairman's Award of the Renaissance Awards to recognize community outreach in Hartford, Connecticut. Mr. Lydon received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boston College in 1971.

Sherry Martin was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s board of directors and to Life Insurance Company of Boston & New York’s board of directors in April 2020. Prior to retiring in 2020, she most recently served as Chief Operating Officer at Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company of Michigan and Vice President at Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Michigan/Farm Bureau General Insurance Company of Michigan. Ms. Martin serves on the American Council of Life Insurers’ (ACLI) Forum 500, Board of Governors. She also serves on the Michigan Life & Health Guaranty Association’s Board of Directors; Society of Financial Service Professionals’ Executive Committee (Mid-Michigan Chapter); and Life Insurance Association of Michigan on its Executive Committee, as well as Treasurer, Legislative Committee, and as Membership Chair. In addition, Ms. Martin is active as a member of Insurance Association of Michigan, as well as the Insurance Advisory Board at Olivet College. She served on the State of Michigan’s Office of Regulatory Reinvention/Insurance & Finance Advisory Rules Committee. Previously, she served as Director for Leaders Life Insurance Company, prior to retiring in 2020. She is an Associate with the Academy of Life Underwriting (AALU) and a Chartered PC Underwriter (CPCU) with the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, as well as a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) with the American College. She also holds a fellowship with the Life Office Management Association (FLMI). Ms. Martin received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Paul Petry was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in February 1996. Mr. Petry joined Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1995 and became Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer in 2001. He relinquished the title of President in 2012 and retired in 2014 as the CEO. He remained Chairman until April of 2016. He began his insurance career with Connecticut Mutual in 1971 as an actuarial student, moving up to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer by 1988. Mr. Petry is also a Director for Life Insurance Company of Boston & New York. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a chartered life underwriter (CLU). In 2009, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the American Council of Life Insurers. Mr. Petry graduated from Holy Cross College in 1968 and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in 1988. He served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard, including a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal.

Timothy L. Porter was elected to Life Insurance Company of Boston & New York’s Board of Directors in February 2000 and to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in April 2018. Mr. Porter served as Senior Counsel at Proskauer Rose LLP and also served as its Chief Client Relationship Counsel. Prior to Proskauer Rose LLP, Mr. Porter served as Vice President-law at AT&T, and chief counsel for labor, employment and environment, where he worked as an attorney for over 20 years. At AT&T, he was responsible for all of the AT&T's domestic and international labor relations, employment, employee benefits, executive compensation and environmental law matters as well as collective bargaining negotiations, appearances before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and labor arbitrations. Prior to serving as chief employment law counsel, a position he held for 10 years, he also led regional and national organizations of AT&T's Government Affairs Department, where he interfaced with numerous state and federal officials and regulatory agencies overseeing public utilities. Mr. Porter served as a director of ATTIMCO, AT&T's employee benefit plan asset management branch, which manages billions of dollars in assets attributable to the company's retirement and health plans. He joined AT&T in 1974 as an attorney and also served as its Southern Region Vice President of Government Affairs from 1993 to 1996 and thereafter chief employment law counsel. He has been an adjunct law professor of employment law, a frequent lecturer and speaker on domestic and international law topics. He also serves as an associate trustee at the College of the Holy Cross. Mr. Porter serves on the board of trustees of New School University, and formerly served on the board of trustees of the College of the Holy Cross, where he is now an associate trustee, member of the executive committee of the board of advisors, and member of the mission and identity committee. He serves on the board of directors of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, where he has been board chairman since 2016, and previously served on the board of the YMCA of Greater New York where he is an emeritus board member. He serves also as a Board of Governors member at the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music. He was the U.S. Executive Committee chairman of the British American Project, and is a member of its advisory board. He also served as a member of the board of the directors of Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and the board of trustees of Newark Public Radio, Inc., where for five years he was its board chairman. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and received a juris doctor degree from New York University School of Law.

Richard Quincy was elected to Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Board of Directors in September 2004. He serves as the President of Quincy & Company and Quincy Insurance Agency, Inc. He is a licensed insurance agent and real estate broker. Mr. Quincy also serves as Director of Needham Bank. Previously, he served as a Director of Hibernia Savings Bank, First Community Bank and Workingman’s Cooperative Bank, and is a past Board Member of the Daniel Marr Boys & Girls Club in Dorchester, Massachusetts and a past trustee of Boston Children’s Museum. Mr. Quincy is also a past overseer of the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum. Mr. Quincy received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boston College in 1977.

Laurie Shahon founded Wilton Capital Group in 1994 to make private direct investments in early to mid-stage companies and medium-sized buyouts. Prior to founding Wilton Capital, Ms. Shahon ran mergers, acquisitions and special operating projects at a private holding company for which she also served as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Color Tile, a 700 store flooring chain. Prior to that, she was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley and Salomon Brothers, where she founded and led the latter firm’s Retailing and Consumer Products Group. She also currently serves on the boards of KCG, where she is on the Audit and Finance and Nominating and Governance Committees; Ramco-Gershenson Properties Trust, where she is on the Audit and Compensation Committees; and Augmented Reality Concepts, where she is Compensation Committee Chairman and also serves on the Audit Committee. She has served on the boards of more than twenty public and private companies since 1987, including Arbor Drugs, The Bombay Company, Eddie Bauer, Kitty Hawk and Safelite Holdings. Ms. Shahon is a graduate of Wellesley College and received her master’s degree in business administration in Finance and International Business from Columbia Business School, where she has been an Adjunct Professor.
